It was also Marc Marquez's younger brother, Alex Marquez's birthday. He was 21 on that day.His teammate, Franco Morbidelli had been outstanding in the previous races having won two out of two races in a row from Qatar to Argentina.

Lights were off and off they went.Franco Morbidelli got the hole shot down towards turn one with the birthday boy behind him. There was also a big crash at the back of the pack as Manzi and Simon collided in turn one.Another big multiple rider crash happened in turn 12 on the same lap as Yonny Hernandez, Jesko Raffin and Lorenzo Baldasarri collided with each other.

Alex Marquez snatched first place from magic Morbidelli at turn fifteen as well as scoring the fastest lap on the first lap. They battled for first place when Edgar Pons crashed at turn nine riding the number 57 machine.

Simone Corsi set the fastest lap with sixteen laps to go while Franky Morbidelli set the fastest lap with fourteen laps to go.Morbidelli had a 0.7 second gap in front of Thomas Lüthi who was in second place with fourteen laps to go.

The tyre degradation levels were high as the track was getting hotter and hotter. Then, it was the last lap.A tactical masterclass was shown by Morbidelli as he saved his tyres at the early stage of the race and winning the race by almost a full second in front of Luthi in second place.Nakagami came third and a bitter disappointment for the birthday boy, Alex Marquez, who was down in fourth place with Domi Aegerter rounding up the top five.
